About SLSP

Who We Are

Surf Life Saving Peru (SLSP) is a national, not-for-profit water safety and lifesaving organisation dedicated to the protection of human life across Peru’s coastal, river, lake, and estuarine environments.

SLSP exists to prevent drowning, reduce water-related injuries, and build resilient communities through professional lifesaving services, structured training, and public education. Our work spans the Pacific coastline, the Amazonian river systems, the Andean lakes, and inland and coastal estuaries where Peruvians live, work, and recreate.

Our Mission

To achieve zero preventable deaths in Peru’s aquatic environments through lifesaving patrols, training, education, and community leadership.

Our Vision

A Peru where every person can safely enjoy the ocean, rivers, and lakes — supported by trained lifesavers, informed communities, and a nationally coordinated water safety system.

What Makes SLSP Different

Surf Life Saving Peru is built on international best practice, adapted to Peru’s unique geography and social realities.

We combine:

Volunteer-led community action

Professional training and certification

Environmental responsibility

National coordination with local delivery

Our model recognises that water safety in Peru is not limited to beaches alone, but extends to remote rivers, high-altitude lakes, fishing zones, tourism hubs, and indigenous territories.

Our Scope of Operations

SLSP operates and develops lifesaving capacity across:

  • Pacific Coastal Zones

Beaches, surf zones, ports, and tourism areas.

  • Amazonian Rivers and Estuaries

    Fast-flowing rivers, flood-prone areas, and river-based communities.

  • Andean Lakes and Inland Waters

High-altitude lakes, cold-water environments, and remote access regions.

This national scope ensures that lifesaving services reach both urban centres and remote communities.
 2

Our Approach

SLSP delivers impact through four integrated pillars:

  1. Rescue and Aquatic Patrol

Active lifesaving patrols and emergency response in high-risk aquatic environments.

  2. Training and Certification

Structured training pathways for youth, adults, and professionals, aligned with international lifesaving standards.

  3. Community Prevention and Education

Water safety education for schools, fishing communities, tourism operators, and indigenous populations.

  4. Environmental Protection and Water Safety

Environmental stewardship, clean-ups, monitoring, and hazard reduction to prevent avoidable risk.

Our Structure

Surf Life Saving Peru operates through a decentralised national network of regional zones and local clubs, allowing communities to lead lifesaving efforts while maintaining national consistency and standards.

Each club serves its local coastline, rivers, and lakes, supported by SLSP’s national governance, training frameworks, and partnerships.

Every patrol, training session, and education program is driven by one principle:

Every life matters. Every rescue counts. Prevention saves the most lives of all.
